State flag of Oklahoma

This is the state flag of Oklahoma, in the United States of America.

The flag depicts three objects on a blue background, with the state's name Oklahoma written underneath in a sans serif font.

Oklahoma Flag Emblem

The item in the background is that of a traditional Native American shield. The flag is decorated with addition signs, representative of the fine arithmetic abilities possessed by the Native Americans, and is decorated with eagle feathers, showing that they were fashionable as well.

Depicted in front of the shield is a peace pipe. Rather than references to violence (as depicted on Nevada's State Flag), the Oklahoma flag instead shows smoking paraphernalia. Smoking may not be good for your health, but a symbol of peace is an excellent thing to have on your flag.

The third item depicted is an olive branch, another symbol of peace and hope. Olives also have many health benefits that smoking does not. The Oklahoma flag shows overall extremely good taste in its symbolism.

The design of the current flag was adopted in 1925. In 1941 the design was altered to include the state's name, a common change to many of the USA's state flags.
