A number of countries have extremely childish and immature flags, but it's hard to find a country more immature than that of Switzerland. The flag shown below is that of region of Appenzell.

Appenzell Canton

The bear is the symbol of the Abbot of St Gallen, and was a quite respectable symbol until 1403, when the district broke into rebellion and declared itself independent. As an act of defiance they added the an errect reproductive organ, and shockingly changed the background from yellow to white. Clearly the heads of state possessed all the dignity of fourteen year-old schoolboys.

In 1579 Appenzell almost went to war when a printer in the St Gallen region published a calendar where the bear was shown in a more modest fashion. The war was only averted by means of profuse apologies and wide-scale destruction and burning of the offending calendar.

The bear itself if featured in the story of St Gallen, who allgedly encountered a hungry bear, and shared with it his bread. The bear went on to help St Gallen construct a small cottage and monestary. Tragically, despite the story being widely regarded as fanciful, hundreds of Swiss children are injured or killed each year in their attempts to befriend the local and rather agressive bears with offerings of bread.
